So What's The Big Deal About Vitamin C Powder

Most of us know about taking Vitamin C in pill form to help better our health and our immune systems. Its many benefits include everything from improving iron absorbtion and blood pressure to reducing the risk of heart disease and dementia.  But using it externally can also help.
How you ask?  Well here's the break down.

When Vitamin C, aka ascorbic acid or L-ascorbic acid powder is applied to the skin (on your face for example) it helps your skin to regenerate.  It doesn't just lay on the surface of our skin (the epidermis) but it actually penetrates to the second layer, the dermis layer. As a result it helps to strengthen capillary walls.  This means those spider veins or broken capillaries that can sometimes appear around the eye and nose can now begin to disappear.
Vitamin C also helps in the development of collagen, that means connective tissue support and better blemish and wound healing.  This powerful little antioxidant can even kick start the reversal effects of sun damage, things like discoloration and wrinkles. Not to mention that it protects our skin from everyday environmental polution. All good news if you spend any time at all out doors.

So what to look for?
First off, don't look for the edible form of Vitamin C, it's not made for topical use. Instead look for the powders in opaque or dark container that are made to be added to a moisturizer, serum, or lotion.  This type of powder needs enough moisture so that it can be properly absorbed into the skin.
Since this form of Vitamin C is in a powder form it's far more stable especially when compared to lotions, creams, and serums that already contain Vitamin C.  Any contact with light or heat could potentially make these other types of products unstable reducing their shelf life and leaving the resulting effectiveness more unreliable.
My suggestion, especially if you have sensitive skin like I do, is to start with a very small amount to see how your skin will react. You can always gradually begin to add more Vitamin C Powder (aka Ascorbic Acid Powder) to your lotion, serum or cream as your skin adjusts.

I recently found an excellent and surprisingly affordable Ascorbic Acid Powder at one of my favourite Canadian online stores well.ca
This particular product brand called "The Ordinary" does not contain sulphates, parabens, mineral oil, animal oils, methylchloroisothiazolinone, methylisothiazolinone, coal tar dyes, benzalkonium chloride, mercury, formaldehyde or oxybenzone.
