A Favourite Recipe From The Past

Recently I've been going through old family pictures and sentimental keepsakes and rediscovered some old family recipes.  Some are even hand written by my Grandmother and Great Grandmother with lots of splatter and stains on the pages.  So I'm going to take a big guess and say these were probably some of the most made and well liked recipes.
Among some of the cake and cookie recipes and the "Barney Google" Squares (And yes I did google to see who or what "Barney Google" was.  According to wikipedia he was a character in a popular comic strip created by American cartoonist Billy Debeck that debuted June 17, 1919.  So as it turns out I actually learned something new today.)

Of course with some of these recipes we have had  to make some substitutions because of food allergies.  But at least I can still experience something fairly close or similar and of course keep these recipes as favourites in the family.

Do you have some old family recipes that you use?  Are they still a favourite in your family and in your house?

One of my Grandmothers hand written recipes.

Need some substitution ideas?  Here are some common ones that you might find helpful. You can also check out our Pinterest board Recipes for more substitution ideas and recipes.
