From the Archive: People Pets And Poisonous Plants

This past couple of weeks have been a bit crazy so I thought it might be a good time to look back on a post I did way back on Sept 11, 2017. Something that's still very relevant. 

Thinking of adding some greenery to your home?
 We'll if you have children or pets you might want to know what plants are not safe around curious and inquisitive hands or paws.
Some of these you might already know but there might be a few surprises too.

Toxic Plants
Aloe Vera - is toxic to pets.
Caladium - is toxic to people and pets.
Daffodil - The bulbs are toxic to pets.
Dieffenbachia - is moderately toxic to people and pets.
Foxglove - is extremely toxic to people and pets.
Rhubab leaves - are toxic to people and pets. Do Not compost these leaves.
Rhododendron and Azalea - is extremely toxic to people and pets.
Hydrangea - is mildly toxic to people and pets.
Ivy - is toxic to dogs and cats and mildly toxic to people.
Peace, Calla, Easter, Rubrum, Tigar, Day, and Asian Lily's - are toxic to people and pets.
Philodendron - is mildly toxic to people and toxic to pets.
Mistletoe - is moderately toxic to people and extremely toxic to pets.
Oleander - is extremely toxic to people and pets.
Water hemlock (weed that can appear in your garden) - is extremely toxic to both people and pets.
Wisteria - is toxic to both people and pets.

Pet Friendly Plants:
Spider plants, Palms, Bamboo, African Violet, Boston Fern, Cast Iron plant, Calathea,  Bromeliads. Christmas Cactus, Phalaenopsis Orchids, Prayer plants, Parlor Palm, Polka Dot plant, Swedish Ivy, Aluminum plants, Lace Flower Vine, Chocolate Soldier, Watermelon plants, and herbs like Basil, Sage and Thyme.
