How To Easily Reduce Allergens In Your Home
It doesn't have to be super complicated to reduce allergens in your home.
Many of the solutions are pretty basic and sometimes make cleaning a bit easier too, a bonus for most of us.
In the bedroom, Hypoallergenic pillowcase covers and mattress covers can help with dust or dust mite allergy. They will also prolong the life of your pillows and mattresses.
Having to many soft surfaces, or even just general clutter can be huge dust collectors. Keeping the clutter in covered bins or drawers can help organize and reduce the dust. Sometimes its a great excuse to go through your stuff and get rid of what you no longer need. Pass it on, donate, or have a garage sale.
Hardwood or solid surface flooring is generally better than carpeting and in my opinion so much easier to clean. Sometimes though we don't always have an option and this is were a good vacuum with a Hepa filter can help. Not only with your floors but for your furniture (mattress, couch, chairs, etc...) as well. And if your anything like my household and have pets and pet allergies these vacuums are a life saver.
Washing the bedding frequently in hot water (that includes your furry family members bedding too), dusting regularly, as well as vacuuming can control a great deal of triggers. I also use my swiffer between the times I vacuum. Its not just great for a quick clean for your floors but works really well on the walls too.
Some other quick tips:
- Dont forget to run the fan when you have a shower or bath to help ventilation and reduce moisture.
- If your home has high humidity and your bathroom fans don't seem to be doing the trick you might want to look at a dehumidifier. They will extract the water from the air reducing your humidity levels and the likely hood of mold.
- Do try using natural cleaners.
- If you have heating or air conditioning that requires filters don't forget to replace them regularly.
- A non ionizing air purifier can also significantly reduce your pets hair and dander but also all the other contaminants and pollution that can be present in our homes.
