Quick Tips To Help Get A Hold Of That Dusty Situation
Sometimes it feels like we can never get ahead when it comes to cleaning.
So I thought I would pass on a few helpful ways to reduce the dust in our homes.
A regular schedule helps in a big way, because once it becomes a habit it not only gets done but you get better and faster at doing it.
We have pets so the hardwood floors get swept a few times a week, for quick clean ups but I vacuum, use the swiffer sweeper and dust once a week. We use a hepa filter vacuum cleaner (we love our Dyson) which is fantastic for those with allergies. When we replaced our old vacuum I was amazed at how little it actually picked up in comparison. The swiffer sweeper is great for getting into those hard to reach places on the floor, like under the couch or under the bed and it works great for walls or hard to reach high corners too.
Using microfiber cloths or dusters actually make dusting easier by capturing and holding onto all those dust particals. Making them extremely useful and inexpensive option (you can even pick them up at the dollar store).
Also a great tip to remember is to work from the top down to save time.
Every couple of months try to remember to get to all those places that rarely get done like the tops of your kitchen cabinets (if they don't go all the way up to the ceiling), and the frequently forgotten bathroom fans.
Keeping the clutter to a minimum helps a lot too. I know it's not always easy with busy lives, kids, pets, and everything else that comes our way but it really does help reduce the dust and makes cleaning faster and easier.
I'm a big fan of using storage containers, boxes and bags to store a lot of items in my closets, not just for keeping organized but to keep things from getting too dusty. If you have storage bins without lids, like I do you can still keep the contents dust free. Just use an extra towel, paper, piece of cardboard or whatever else you happen to have to place on top of whatever you use in the box. I find it works really well, especially as most of the bins I use are up high.
Reducing fabric surfaces helps reduce dust too. But while this helps it's not always a practical option or solution. So vacuuming your fabric furniture and beds from time to time will also help.
Unfortunately all those nice throw cushions and piles of pillows on our beds, well they all contribute to the problem. While vacuuming and washing helps it's something that needs to be done regularly and lets be honest, how often do you remember to do it? We all have good intentions, but sometimes life just has other plans.
