A Look On The Bright Side, What You Can Do

With all the craziness in the world right now I thought this might be the time to take a moment to look on the brighter side.
With the scary news of the Amazon forest fires and all the environmental issues that seem to be around every corner. It can feel overwhelming and leave us feeling helpless.
But everyone can do something, even if it's just a little something.  Just think, if you combined all those "little things" together it has the potential to grow into something pretty big.  So why not?
So what are some of these "little things" you can do to make our world a better place?  Well, I'm so glad you asked because I've put together a few ideas, that I hope will inspire you.

1. Instead of using chemicals to clean in and around your home choose some natural solutions. There are some great natural cleaners out there but you can also use good old fashioned vinegar and baking soda.
2. Avoid dryer sheets and opt for dryer balls instead or hang your items to dry.
3. Recycle.
4. Find new uses for old things in your home or donate them.
5. Don't over water your plants, garden or lawn.  You can always invest in a soil moister meter to test      an area to see if it actually needs water.  There are even drought resistant plants that you can use.
6. If you have outdated medications don't throw them in the garbage.  Many pharmacies will take them and dispose of them properly.
7. Don't throw out left over paints and other chemicals. Many recycling places will take them, so check your area.
8. Reduce your use of single use plastics. Instead of wrapping your sandwich in plastic wrap put them in a sealed container. You can also use reusable lunch bags, beeswax food wraps, and reusable silicon lids, just to name a few.
9.  Reduce your use of paper towels by also using reusable towels (I found mine at the dollar store).
10.  Use chemical free sunscreen (especially if you plan to go into the ocean, lake, or river.)
11.  Make the switch to more natural (aka chemical free) skincare, hair care and beauty products.
12. Switch from aerosol sprays to pump sprays.
13. Shop you local Thrift or Second hand stores. My local Restore is a great place to find a lot of the the little things that I need for around the house.
14. Reduce your personal use of water and power by using less water when you do things like taking a shower or brush your teeth.  Switch light bulbs for more efficient ones and turn off lights and electronics when not in use.
15.  If you can, walk a little more and drive or take transit a little less.
Give new life or purpose to an old piece of furniture.
To help improve the indoor air quality of your home use an air purifier, a vacuum with a hepa filter, and reduce the use of any chemicals in the home..

If you're on your daily walk and spot garbage pick it up.
Does your community have volunteer pick up garbage days?

All these things can not help the environment around us but they can also help all of us especially those with allergies, asthma, and many other health issues.
