Green Tea Uses And Benifits

Green tea isn't just a health beverage to enjoy hot or cold it also has many other uses and even more benefits than your might think.  In traditional Indian and Chinese medicine it has been used to help with wound healing, aid digestion and improve heart health amoung many other things.

First off, green tea actually retains it's vibrant colour because it's unprocessed and because of this it has more health benifits than you typical black tea. Green tea is high in polyphenois (like flavonoids) and these function as antioxidents. It's actually the polyphenois that are believed to provide the anti-carcinogenic and anti-inflammatory effects. It also has anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties.

While more studies are needed, green tea is showing promise and benefits in recent studies (both big and small) in the following areas.

- Lowering the risk of type 2 diabetes and Alzheimers.
- Lowering the risk of stroke and heart attack.
- Lowering LDL cholesterol and blood pressure.
- Protect against ultraviolet radiation.
- May provide heart benefits and help liver disorders.
- Aids in weight loss and dental care.
- Helps inflammatory skin disease and reduces irritation and redness.
- Enhances the brains cognitive functions as well as improves vascular activity.
- Relaxes the body
- Can ease allergy symptoms in some people.
- Digestive aid.
 - Cancer rates in countries that consume a lot of green tea are lower and many believe that this is a direct result of the tea but more study is needed.

It's also important to note that people who have reflux can often have problems with the tannins found in tea..Of course as in many things, an allergy to green tea is possible and it's usually the caffeine or tannin that seems to be the culprit.

Here are a few great uses for green tea or your used leaves or tea bags.

 - Placing cool tea bags over closed eyes feels wonderful and it reduces swelling and tightens the skin.  The tannin's in the tea reducing swelling and tighten by shrinking down the blood vessels under the eyes

- If you steep a couple of bags of green tea in boiling water and let them cool you can use this to help red, irritated or acne prone skin. You can use a washcloth or cotton round to gently pat onto skin.

- By drinking or applying green tea to skin like the above suggestion it aids in protecting your skin cells from damage caused by the sun. Think of it as an extra layer of protection from those UV rays.

-  To help with odours and excess humidity you can place your used tea bags in the fridge or in your shoes, drawers or any other place you want to absorb odors and/or reduce moisture.

- For an anti-bacterial foot soak that reduces odor simply brew some strong green tea.

- If you soak green tea in water for a couple of days you can use that water to fertilize your plants.  It helps by increasing the nutrient levels and oxygen in the soil.
