Cosmetics in Canada

Recently a story on Health Canada and cosmetics was on Global News explaining that
"Health Canada doesn’t regularly test cosmetics for harmful or prohibited substances and there’s no legal requirement to report adverse health and safety incidents — unlike other consumer products".

So this got me thinking, what are the things we should all be avoiding?  It becomes a bit scary when you begin to realize all the different products we use each and every day.  Everything from our shampoo and deodorant, makeup, and even our hand lotion.

After reading about all the scary stuff I went in search of something positive for safe cosmetics in Canada and I found a reassuring amount of options.

Beautycounter - A Canadian Company offering safe skincare and makeup online for all members of the family including the kids.

Saint cosmetics - A Ontario, Canada company offering safe cosmetics online.

Sweet Leilani - A British Columbia, Canada Company, offering makeup, skincare and brushes available in stores and online.

Emani - A US based Company offering makeup and skincare available in Canada in stores and online.

Mineral Fusion - US based Company offering makeup, skincare, haircare, nailcare, available online and in store in Canada.

100% Pure -US based Company offering makeup, skincare, haircare, nailcare, baby products available on line in Canada.

dr auschka -skincare and makeup that is available in Canada

The US based website Campain for Safe Cosmetics, Chemicals of Concern has a great deal of information on products and ingredients and if they are allergens, irritants, carcinogens, etc....

I have noticed that more and more products promoting, such things as paraben free and sulfate free.  So I am hopeful that other companies will continue to listen to their customers concerns and remove potentially irritating/harmful ingredients.

Wondering how your favourite product rates.

If you know of other companies who have products available to Canadians I would love to know about them.
