Can Natural Antihistamines Help My Allergies?
Yes, natural antihistamines can absolutely help with your allergy symptoms by blocking and preventing histamine activity.
Probably the best known natural antihistamine is Vitamin C. According to the alive.com article, "Common Allergies, Uncommon Remedies" by Leigh Broadhurst, PhD , Vitamin C "is a powerful antihistamine that does not cause side-effects". Unlike many over the counter medications that can cause things like drowsiness and dry mouth.
Vitamin C actually prevents the formation of histamine unlike antihistamine medications that only take affect after the histamine has been released.

Quercetin supplements are another option for a natural antihistamine but with the added benefit of also being an anti-inflammatory. You can find Quercetin in other food sources besides citrus fruits. Foods like onions, legumes, tea, apples, parsley, broccoli, tomatoes, lettuce, berries, and my personal favourite wine all contain Quercetin.
Bromelain supplements have also proven to be very helpful by thinning mucus and acting as an anti-inflammatory in the throat, sinus, and nasal passages. According to the webmd.com article, "Natural Allergy Remedies" by R. Morgan Griffin, Bromelain maybe "particularly useful when added to drug treatment for sinus infections."
It is very important to note however, that if you are sensitive or allergic to pineapple (Bromelain), citrus fruit (Quercetin supplements) you should avoid these types of supplements. As always check with your Doctor and your Pharmacist if you have any questions or to learn of any possible interactions with other medications you may be taking.
