Finding The Right Foundation And Powder

We have all been there staring at all the makeup options at the drugstore a bit overwhelmed. The pretty packaging, presentations, and the colours all looks so good, but where do you start?

First of all what are you looking for?
Do you want a foundation, a powder, or a concealer?
Do you have a preference?  (I tend to like creams over liquid.)
Do you have sensitive, oily, combination, or dry skin?

Take advantage of the sales people and let them know what you are looking for so they can help.  Ask if they have any samples.  You won't have to worry about making a return if you didn't like it or if your skin didn't like it.

Read the ingredient labels for anything you know you are sensitive or allergic to.  I personally find that the fewer the ingredients the better.

On my search for sensitive skin makeup lines I've found the following brands mentioned the most often for Powders, Foundation and Concealers.  As a added bonus most of these makeup lines are actually available in Canada.

Mineral Makeup:  Bare minerals, Pur Minerals , MAC Mineralizer, Physicians Formula

Foundation/Concealers:  Clinique,  MAC, Vichy Dermablend

Almay and Marcelle are known for their makeup for sensitive skin and Covergirl also has a foundation called Clean, Sensitive Skin.

I have dry to combination sensitive skin.  I started using Vichy Dermablend Compact Foundation last year.  I have a hard time finding the right shade and found a perfect match and it has great coverage.  I've been using Mineral Fusion Pressed Powder Foundation for a couple of years.  I like that I can layer the coverage with just the powder or use it with Dermablend for even better coverage.

The place I frequently go for beauty product information is beautypedia skincare reviews .  They give not only product information like ingredients but also expert and community reviews.  Really helpful since it can sometimes be difficult to find ingredient lists online.
