It's Allergy Season...Again (Part 2)
So last week I talked about the good old reliable allergy pill. But there are other options available to help with those all to familiar and annoying allergy symptoms.
Eye drops and nasal sprays are just two more options that can help further relieve your symptoms. It's important to note that they are not intended for long term use and may not work for everyone. Personally I do use eye drops but I don't use nasal sprays, as in all honestly they just cause me way more discomfort than relief.
Non prescription eye drops include antihistamine and decongestant or a combination of the two and can help relieve irritated itchy, watery, and red eyes.
Some examples of these products include:
Naphazoline (Clear Eyes)
Tetrahydrozoline (Visine)
Claritin Eye Allergy Relief
Bausch & Lomb Allergy Relief, ...
Make sure you read all the instructions carefully and do not over use eye drops as they can have a rebound affect.
Saline drops can also feel great and give you some temporary relief, unfortunately they won't reduce symptoms.
Non prescription nasal sprays are another option to help relieve your congestion. Some examples of these products include:
Nasacort
Flonase
Rhinocort
Claritin
Otrivin
Again it's important not to over use nasal sprays as they can also have a rebound effect (similar to the allergy eye drops) and actually make your congestion worse.
There are lots of options and brands available so please talk to your pharmacist so they can help find what will work best for you and your specific needs.
(Both eye drops and nasal sprays are also available by prescription.)
