The Best Fabrics To Wear When Your Skin Is Irritated

So if you've ever experienced eczema or any kind of skin irritation you know that some clothing and fabrics can definitely be more comfortable than others.
So what type of fabric can offer the best comfort?
Well, first things first, avoid the snug fitting, stiff or rough fabric with folds or parts that might rub and cause further irritation.  Instead choose natural fabrics that are soft, light weight and loose fitting like cotton and silks. Personally my favourite is modal and cotton.
If you happen to be sensitive to formaldehyde it's also a good idea to avoid fabrics that have been treated with it.  Fabrics like corduroy, shrink proof wool, wrinkle resistant (permanent press), stain resistant, rayon, and blended cotton. Formaldehyde free fabrics include spandex, soft flannel, 100% polyester, 100% nylon, 100% silk, 100% linen, 100% acrylic, denim.
The man made fabrics like polyester, acrylic, rayon, nylon, and acetate are treated with chemicals and tend to trap odors and bacteria.  Not to mention if you've ever worn polyester on a hot summers day you already know it doesn't breath.

So here's a quick break down of some fabric types for you.
Natural fabrics include:
  • Cotton
